The Spatial Strategy Team was created in response to the growing need for a dedicated organization to address spatial strategies for resolving imbalances between the old and new city centers, as well as to oversee complex tasks across all aspects of urban planning in Gangdong District.
These complex urban planning tasks include the integrated management of public contributions resulting from increased floor area ratio urban planning, the concrete implementation of the 'Gangdong Grand Design' project as it enters its final stage, and the expedited advancement of various urban planning projects.
The team's specific responsibilities are as follows: (1) Identifying strategic projects in connection with Seoul City policies for aging low-rise residential areas, underutilized sites, and urban planning facility sites, and implementing strategic projects reviewed by region under the Gangdong Grand Design in phases. (2) Establishing customized integrated guidelines and preparing high-quality design standards for public facilities contributed through station area development and redevelopment projects, and ensuring these are reflected in the projects. (3) Conducting preliminary reviews of agenda items for the District Urban Planning Committee and the Urban Architecture Joint Committee to present rational and systematic directions for urban planning.
The Spatial Strategy Team aims to ensure both continuity and expertise in administration. With the establishment of this new team, the district expects to promote mid- to long-term urban planning in a systematic and strategic manner, strengthen expertise within the administration, and enhance the effectiveness of urban policy implementation.
Lee Suhee, Mayor of Gangdong District, stated, "With the establishment of the Spatial Strategy Team, we will respond more precisely to urban issues and take the lead in developing urban spatial strategies that residents can truly experience."
