Professor Yumi Kim of Sejong Chungnam National University Hospital Wins Best Poster Award at Annual Conference

Emphasizing the Need for Advanced Expertise in Disease Management

Sejong Chungnam National University Hospital announced on July 2 that Professor Yumi Kim of the Department of Pediatrics recently received the Best Poster Award at the "2025 Annual Conference of the Korean Society of Inherited Metabolic Diseases," held at the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas in Seoul.

The Korean Society of Inherited Metabolic Diseases holds an annual academic conference to promote the latest research and academic exchange on the diagnosis and treatment of rare and intractable inherited metabolic diseases. Marking its 25th edition this year, the conference featured presentations of the latest research by domestic and international experts, as well as in-depth discussions on various clinical cases and treatment methods.

At the conference, Professor Kim presented a poster study titled "Early Recognition and Neurotransmitter Precursor Therapy in a Neonate with BH4 deficiency." The research was highly evaluated for its academic value and clinical applicability, leading to her selection as the recipient of the Best Poster Award.

In particular, Professor Kim's study drew significant attention from the academic community by highlighting the importance of early diagnosis and neurotransmitter precursor therapy in neonates with BH4 deficiency.

Professor Kim stated, "Although inherited metabolic diseases are rare as individual conditions, they were among the first diseases targeted by the national newborn screening program due to the need for early diagnosis and treatment. Because the management of these diseases requires a high level of expertise, presentations and exchanges at the Korean Society of Inherited Metabolic Diseases and among medical professionals have been greatly beneficial for the care of patients with inherited metabolic disorders."
