According to Shinhan Financial Group on July 2, Jin Okdong, Chairman of Shinhan Financial Group, emphasized this point at the "2025 Second Half Management Forum" held on July 1 at Shinhan Bank Blue Campus in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.
This forum, held under the theme of "AX (AI Transformation) - Ignition," was designed to integrate generative AI and AI agents into each executive's work and connect these efforts to company-wide implementation. The focus was placed on enabling business leaders to become the main agents of execution, moving beyond merely understanding technology.
This approach is rooted in Chairman Jin's philosophy that leaders, in particular, must be well-versed in new technologies. At the management forum, Chairman Jin stated, "Leaders must not only understand technology but also be able to skillfully utilize and implement it," adding, "Leadership in the AI era only has real meaning when it is put into action."
To maximize the effectiveness of the forum, Shinhan Financial provided six weeks of pre-training before the event and prepared additional intensive offline training sessions before and after the forum. The 237 executives in attendance also participated in hands-on AI exercises. During the morning session, the group's CEOs presented concrete AI utilization strategies based on actionable plans for each subsidiary, and external experts shared insights on the future direction of the financial industry.
In the afternoon, an "AI Practice Mission" was conducted in the format of an ideathon. Executives were assigned tasks that took into account their job experience and key industry issues. For example, those in charge of corporate finance were tasked with drafting financial proposals using macroeconomic analysis and public data, while those responsible for senior customers were asked to propose dedicated AI assistant services and marketing strategies.
The executives used AI agents to complete their missions, and the group also shared their accumulated experiences by selecting outstanding practice mission submissions on the same day.
Chairman Jin underscored that "leaders who connect technology to execution will lead the AI era," stressing that leaders must take the initiative in driving change. He stated, "Just as rankings often change when racing cars take sharp corners, the current period of AI technological transformation is a critical time that will determine the survival and sustainability of companies. Based on Shinhan's execution DNA, let us take the lead in hyper-personalized finance by proactively proposing and realizing what customers truly want."
Shinhan Financial plans to continue AI training for its leaders even after the forum. A Shinhan Financial representative stated, "Through three rounds of intensive offline training and the implementation of action plans for each group company, we will accelerate Shinhan Financial's AI transformation."
