Six Outstanding Buildings Selected in Social, Residential, and Non-Residential Sectors
Winning Projects to Be Exhibited and Announced at the Gwangju Architecture and Urban Culture Festival in October
On July 2, Gwangju City announced that it will hold the call for entries for the "29th Gwangju City Architecture Awards" until the 25th, aiming to discover and recognize outstanding buildings that have contributed to the development of local architectural culture and the improvement of the urban landscape.
The "Gwangju City Architecture Awards" is the highest honor in the field of architecture hosted by the city, held annually to recognize outstanding buildings that have contributed to enhancing the city’s aesthetics and improving the quality of life for its citizens.
This year’s contest is open to buildings in the Gwangju area that received use approval within the past five years (as of the announcement date), including those in the social and public sector, residential sector, and non-residential sector (including remodeled buildings). Eligible entries must be designed by architects who are registered as licensed architects.
Architects wishing to participate can download the application form from the Gwangju City Architects Association website and must submit the required documents and an A0-sized project panel in person to the association’s office.
The judging panel, composed of architects, university professors, and public officials, will conduct on-site inspections and a comprehensive evaluation over four weeks to select one Grand Prize winner and one Excellence Award winner in each category, for a total of six winning projects. This year, in addition to external design, construction quality and the usability of interior spaces will be key evaluation criteria.
The architect who designed each winning project will receive a trophy and a cash prize, the builder will receive a trophy, and the building owner will be awarded a plaque to be attached to the building. The selected works will be exhibited and made public at the "22nd Gwangju Architecture and Urban Culture Festival," which will be held at City Hall from October 21 to 24.
Jung Seungcheol, head of the Architectural Landscape Division, said, "We hope this contest will contribute to the qualitative improvement and public value of Gwangju’s architectural culture," adding, "We encourage active participation from interested architects."
