Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, sold approximately 3.3 million shares of Amazon stock over the past few days, totaling $736.7 million (about 1 trillion won), according to reports from U.S. business media outlets such as CNBC on July 1 (local time).
In a document submitted to U.S. regulators in March, Bezos had previously announced his plan to sell a total of 25 million shares by May 29, 2026. U.S. media reported that the recent sales were also carried out as part of this plan.
Bloomberg specifically pointed out that the timing of these stock sales coincided with Bezos's extravagant wedding. From June 26 to 28, Bezos held his wedding with his fianc?e Lauren Sanchez in Venice, Italy, and it is estimated that the event cost around $50 million.
According to Bloomberg's analysis, Bezos has sold approximately $44 billion worth of Amazon stock since 2002.
Bezos has frequently sold Amazon shares to fund Blue Origin, the space company he founded in 2000, and is also known to have donated to various nonprofit and charitable organizations. After stepping down as Amazon's CEO in 2021, he has continued to serve as chairman and remains the company's largest shareholder. According to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), as of April 3, Bezos held more than 904 million shares of Amazon stock.
On this day, Amazon's stock price closed at $220.46, up 0.49% in regular trading, and rose an additional 0.1% in after-hours trading.
