Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation Launches Premium Edition Hwanggeumballpen of Donballpen

On July 2, the Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation announced the launch of the 'Hwanggeumballpen' as a special edition of the Donballpen.

The Donballpen is the first merchandise product made using by-products from currency production. Since its launch in March, every restock of the Donballpen has sold out, demonstrating significant popularity.

In response, the corporation plans to continue the success of its currency by-product merchandise line by releasing the 'Hwanggeumballpen' as a special edition of the Donballpen.

The 'Hwanggeumballpen' edition comes with a gold-colored modern steel case, which includes the Hwanggeumballpen itself, a refill, and a portable leather case.

The Hwanggeumballpen features the same modern body as the original Donballpen, but with a gold finish for a more luxurious look. The top of the pen contains by-products equivalent to one 50,000-won note, emphasizing its image as a "pen that brings wealth."

The corporation highlights that the inclusion of an additional refill adds practicality, while the leather case enhances style and collectible value. Each component is engraved with the corporation's currency by-product brand logo, 'moneymade.'

The 'Hwanggeumballpen' edition was first unveiled as the corporation's inaugural project on the crowdfunding platform Wadiz, with the campaign opening on June 26. Actual purchases are available starting July 2.

The crowdfunding price is set at 33,000 won, which is a 10% discount from the regular price of 36,000 won. After the crowdfunding campaign ends, the product will be available at the regular price through the corporation's online mall and other channels.

President Sung Changhoon of the Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation stated, "The currency merchandise business is a meaningful project that transforms by-products generated during the manufacturing of new currency into valuable products. The corporation will continue to introduce a variety of merchandise following the Hwanggeumballpen, establishing exemplary cases for a circular economy and social value."

Meanwhile, the currency merchandise business originated from concerns that most by-products generated during the manufacturing and distribution of currency?such as defective or discarded banknotes, amounting to about 500 tons annually?are incinerated, causing environmental pollution.

The purpose of the corporation's currency merchandise business is to establish a model for practicing a circular economy by giving new value and meaning to currency by-products and transforming them into products.
