Gangnam-gu Opens Daecheong Comprehensive Social Welfare Center Nonhyeon Branch at Nonhyeon Station

First Welfare Hub in Nonhyeon-dong
Customized Support for Single-Person Households and More

On July 2, the Gangnam-gu district office in Seoul announced the official opening of the Daecheong Comprehensive Social Welfare Center Nonhyeon Branch inside Nonhyeon Station on Seoul Subway Line 7.

The Nonhyeon Branch will serve as a community-based welfare hub providing customized services for residents in Nonhyeon-dong, where there was previously no welfare center. The center will carry out various welfare functions aimed at supporting single-person households at risk of isolation and addressing welfare blind spots in the area.

The establishment of the Nonhyeon Branch is part of the "Comprehensive Social Welfare Center Redesign Project." This project is Gangnam-gu's strategic welfare policy designed to overcome the limitations of welfare centers being concentrated south of Yangjaecheon and to create welfare hubs close to daily life for residents who have difficulty accessing existing centers.

Since 2023, the Daecheong Comprehensive Social Welfare Center in Irwon-dong and the Neungin Comprehensive Social Welfare Center in Gaepo-dong have each been working to establish welfare hubs in Nonhyeon-dong and Yeoksam-dong. Previously, the Neungin Comprehensive Social Welfare Center opened and has been operating the Yeoksam Branch within the Single-Person Household Community Center.

The Nonhyeon Branch was previously operated as a mobile office within the Nonhyeon 2-dong Community Center. With its relocation to Nonhyeon Station, it is now equipped with essential infrastructure such as consultation rooms, program rooms, and office space, enabling stable service provision. The center plans to implement a variety of welfare projects tailored to local needs, including identifying single-person households at risk of isolation and managing public-private cooperation cases, daily support programs for middle-aged and single-person households, operating mobile welfare counseling services, and establishing welfare agreements and networks with local businesses.

Gangnam-gu Mayor Cho Sungmyung stated, "It is very meaningful that a hub-type welfare space, easily accessible to all residents, has been established in Nonhyeon-dong, where there was no comprehensive social welfare center. Going forward, we will continue to expand community-based welfare infrastructure in line with the changing welfare environment."
