Wireless Headsets Gain Popularity Among Teenagers
Premium Models Now Priced Over 600,000 Won
As wireless headsets gain popularity among teenagers, their prices are also rising. Premium models now easily exceed 600,000 won.
On July 1, Segye Ilbo reported that the latest Sony wireless headset has been released at 619,000 won, which is 140,000 won more expensive than the previous model.

Despite the price increase, the number of students seeking wireless headsets continues to grow. Among customers who purchased premium wireless noise-canceling headsets from Sony Korea, the proportion of those aged 15 to 24 rose from 7% in 2019 to 31% in 2023.
Some analysts attribute this preference to the noise-canceling feature, which blocks out ambient noise more effectively than earphones. This allows students to study without distractions not only at school or private academies but also in noisy places such as cafes and public transportation.
According to a survey by the market research firm Embrain Trend Monitor, 51.6% of 1,000 users aged 13 to 59 reported using headsets or earphones to block out noise.
Perhaps as a result, more parents are giving headsets as gifts to support their children's studies. In the Trend Monitor survey, 34% of headset users last year said they received their headsets as gifts rather than purchasing them themselves.
