According to the city on July 1, the opening ceremony was attended by over 100 people, including Mayor Choi Kyungsik, Vice Chairman Kim Hansu of the City Council, city and provincial council members, the chairman of the Namwon City Tourism Council, and heads of related organizations and groups. The event included congratulatory performances, a progress report, greetings and congratulatory speeches, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and a facility tour.
Myeongjigak was selected for a public contest organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2022 and received national funding of 3.9 billion won. A total project cost of 9.4 billion won was invested in the sites at Geumdong and Ssanggyeo-dong, resulting in a facility with a total floor area of 870 square meters, one above-ground floor, 12 buildings, and 11 guest rooms.
The main facilities consist of 12 buildings on one floor, with 11 guest rooms (six double rooms and five quadruple rooms). The space is designed for parents and children visiting Gwanghalluwon in Namwon to create memories and enjoy comfortable accommodations. The interior uses eco-friendly materials to provide a nature-friendly environment for infants and children.
The city expects that the unique characteristics of Namwon, embodied in the main building?renovated from a traditional house built in 1956?and the east building?expanded from a private Hanok?will harmoniously combine tradition and modernity, revitalizing the region's culture and economy.
Mayor Choi Kyungsik stated, "We will promote measures to vitalize 'Myeongjigak,' the regionally specialized eco-friendly accommodation facility, including linking it with local tourism content, so that it becomes a landmark of Namwon."
