Jinan County Holds 'Solitary Death Prevention Education' at Job Support Center

"Eliminating Welfare Blind Spots"

Jinan County in North Jeolla Province conducted an education session to prevent solitary deaths at the Jinan County Senior Job Support Center on the 30th of last month.

According to the county on July 1, the purpose of this session was to raise awareness in the local community about the seriousness of solitary deaths and the importance of prevention, and to address welfare blind spots by detecting crisis signs at an early stage.

More than 100 people attended the session, including members of the Community Social Security Council from each town and township within the county, honorary social welfare officials, and members of the Social Welfare Council. They took the time to reaffirm the importance of the local welfare safety net. The session focused on the main signs and causes of solitary deaths, methods for linking welfare services, and sharing successful cases.

'Solitary death' refers to a social problem in which a person passes away alone, disconnected from family or neighbors. Concerns about this issue are growing nationwide, especially as the aging population and the number of single-person households increase.

The county is one of the regions where rural aging is progressing rapidly, making proactive measures against this phenomenon even more urgent. The participants pledged to pay close attention to isolated neighbors in their daily interactions with residents, reflecting on the importance of community care beyond the scope of a simple education session.

An Hosuk, head of the county's Social Welfare Division, stated, "Solitary death is not an individual problem but an issue that the entire social community must address together. I ask all local community activists who attended today to pay even closer attention to your neighbors."
