At a city administration briefing held in the main conference room of city hall on the 1st, Mayor Jung stated, "We will build a 'Hwaseong-style Basic Society' where no one is left behind, going beyond technology and growth."
Mayor Jung described the "Hwaseong-style Basic Society" as a warm community in which welfare, housing, labor, education, care, and culture are harmoniously integrated, emphasizing, "A better life for our citizens is both the ultimate goal and the starting point of city administration."
To achieve this, Mayor Jung plans to expand the Basic Society Task Force, which was newly established earlier this year as the first among local governments, into the Office of Basic Society and to implement 40 related projects.
For the final, fourth year of his term, he presented the direction of city administration as "a city where citizens' desired lives are realized." To this end, he plans to steadily pursue major initiatives such as the establishment of general districts, the early implementation of the Dongtan tram, expansion of the transportation network, attraction of a university general hospital, development of the Hwaseong International Theme Park, creation of the Golden Coast Road and Goryeomsan Marine Park, construction of the Seohaemaru Youth Hostel, establishment of a botanic garden and Hwaseong Arts Center, and opening of the Hwaseong Central Library.
He also expressed a strong commitment to job creation by fostering an advanced future industry ecosystem. In particular, having already achieved his initial goal of attracting 20 trillion won in investments early in his term, Mayor Jung has now raised the target to 25 trillion won. He also unveiled plans such as establishing a self-driving living lab demonstration city, attracting investments in advanced artificial intelligence (AI) industries, advancing the semiconductor cluster, and creating eco-friendly industrial complexes.
Mayor Jung especially highlighted his determination to build an advanced self-driving city. To this end, the "Living Lab Mobility Center," which will enable real-time monitoring of autonomous vehicles, will be completed within this year on the west side of Songsan Green City. Starting next year, autonomous vehicles will be used to provide public services such as mobility support for transportation-vulnerable groups and demand-responsive mini-shuttles in Namyang-eup, Saesol-dong, and Mado Industrial Complex.
Mayor Jung also presented his vision for the future of the city. He stated, "Ten years from now, when large-scale urban development is completed, Hwaseong will enter an era of balanced development with a population of 1.6 million, the largest in the nation," and emphasized, "We will leap forward as a mega-regional future city where people, nature, and technology are harmoniously integrated."
Mayor Jung added, "Hwaseong City will fulfill its promise to realize the completion of life together with its citizens and become a leading central city for the future."
