This year marked the third edition of the forum, with more than 1,000 key figures from UNESCO's 194 member states and 12 international organizations in attendance to discuss global AI governance for a society transformed by AI. LG AI Research Institute also participated in this forum last year.
At the event, Myungshin Kim, Chief Policy Officer at LG AI Research Institute, attended a session themed 'The Role of Companies in the AI Era' and exchanged views on private sector cooperation for global AI governance with representatives from organizations such as the Thomson Reuters Foundation, Microsoft, SAP, and Infosys.
LG AI Research Institute also shared updates on the 'AI Ethics MOOC,' a global project being promoted in collaboration with UNESCO. This program aims to strengthen AI ethics capabilities in both the public and private sectors by identifying best practices for the proper development and use of AI technologies, and developing and providing them as educational programs for AI experts, researchers, and policymakers worldwide. LG AI Research Institute and UNESCO plan to share the outcomes of this project at the 'AI Impact Summit' scheduled to be held in New Delhi, India, in February next year.
Additionally, LG AI Research Institute is expanding its global AI governance partnerships by collaborating with leading AI research institutions such as Harvard University, New York University, University of Notre Dame, United Nations University, Mozilla Foundation, and the World Commission on the Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technology (COMEST). The institute will also participate in the 'AI Safety Workshop' to be held in Japan on July 5, and in the 'AI for Good Summit' organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Switzerland starting July 8, continuing discussions on building global AI governance.
Myungshin Kim, Chief Policy Officer at LG AI Research Institute, stated, "The advancement of AI technology presents humanity with both new opportunities and challenges," and added, "As the international community actively works to establish AI ethical standards and international norms, LG AI Research Institute will join these efforts based on the fundamental belief that AI is created by people."
Kwangmo Koo, Chairman of LG Group, also emphasized the importance of challenge and change for differentiated future value in his New Year’s address this year, stating, "LG has become what it is today through many moments of challenging new areas and creating unprecedented value."
