Special Performance Marks First Anniversary of Sisterhood Between Gochang County and Jeongseon County
Gochang County, North Jeolla Province, will host a special performance titled "Arirari" to mark the first anniversary of the sisterhood agreement between Gochang County and Jeongseon County. The event will take place at the Gochang Culture and Arts Center on July 10 and 11.
According to the county on July 1, the "Arirari" performance is a creative musical reinterpretation of "Jeongseon Arirang," a cultural heritage from Jeongseon, Gangwon Province, which is listed as a UNESCO cultural heritage. The show combines various genres, including theater, dance, percussion, and multimedia.
Since its premiere in 2018 to commemorate the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, "Arirari" has been consistently invited to stages both in Korea and abroad, demonstrating the potential for modernizing Korean traditions. The performance has earned international recognition, including an official invitation to the Edinburgh Fringe in the United Kingdom in the summer of 2024 and participation in the Adelaide Festival in Australia in 2023.
This performance is being held to celebrate the first anniversary of the sisterhood agreement between Gochang County and Jeongseon County. The event is hosted by Gochang County and Jeongseon County, and organized by the Gochang Culture and Arts Center and the Jeongseon Arirang Foundation.
