Awards in Three Categories: Research Innovation, Industrial Promotion, and Academic Excellence
To Be Presented at Busan R&D Week in September
Busan Metropolitan City and the Busan Institute of Science, Technology and Education Promotion (BISTEP, President Kim Youngbu) have launched the '2025 Busan Region Research and Development Excellence Achievement Selection' contest to discover outstanding achievements in the local research and development ecosystem and to highlight the spirit of challenge among researchers.
The contest will run until July 27, and a total of eight outstanding achievements will be selected across three categories: Research Innovation, Industrial Promotion, and Academic Excellence.
The awards will be divided into four Busan Mayor's Awards and four BISTEP President's Awards. Recipients of the BISTEP President's Award will also receive a prize valued at 1 million KRW.
Eligibility varies by category. For the Research Innovation and Industrial Promotion categories, regular faculty members of universities and regular researchers affiliated with research institutes in the Busan region are eligible. For the Academic Excellence category, the focus is on early-career researchers, including graduate students and non-regular researchers.
The evaluation will be based on local research and development achievements generated from 2024 to the present. Field experts will conduct a thorough review of actual industrial transformation outcomes, technological impact, and contributions to the local community.
The awards ceremony will be held during the '11th Busan R&D Week' event in September. In addition to the ceremony, citizen-participation programs such as a poster exhibition and achievement presentations will be organized to maximize public interest and the ripple effect of local R&D.
BISTEP President Kim Youngbu stated, "This contest serves to highlight the positive impact that Busan's science and technology sector has had on industry and society as a whole, and to encourage the spirit of challenge among outstanding researchers." He added, "We hope that the innovative achievements born in the local field will have the opportunity to communicate with and spread among citizens."
