Over 500 Athletes Participate in Gyeongju Hill Climb Competition
On June 29, the Wolseong Headquarters of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) held the "2025 Gyeongju Wind Hill National Hill Climb Competition with KHNP" in the area around the KHNP headquarters in Janghang-ri, Munmu-daewang-myeon, Gyeongju. The event was organized by the Gyeongju Cycling Federation and sponsored by the Wolseong Headquarters.
This competition, now in its third year since its inaugural event in 2023, attracted approximately 650 participants, including about 500 athletes and their families from across the country.
The competition featured a total of 30 events, including 15 cycling divisions and 15 MTB divisions. The course began with a 16-kilometer round-trip parade from the KHNP headquarters to Girimsa Temple, followed by a 7-kilometer hill climb up to the parking lot of the Gyeongju Wind Power Plant.
On the day of the event, the Wolseong Headquarters organized various activities for athletes and their families, such as the "On-the-Go Won-Ba-Kwi (Nuclear Power Quiz)," a free beverage food truck promoting continued operation of Wolseong Units 2, 3, and 4, an ice cream giveaway celebrating the contract for a new nuclear power plant in the Czech Republic, and a campaign to promote health guidelines against heat waves.
Kim Hyoyong, an athlete from Yangsan, Gyeongnam, said, "I am happy to participate in the competition with my club members for the third consecutive year," and expressed gratitude to the Gyeongju Cycling Federation and the Wolseong Headquarters for organizing the event.
Award winners were selected in 22 categories. The best record in the cycling division was achieved by Yang Taeyang of Watts Racing, who finished first in the Men's 1-2 division (under 35) with a time of 20 minutes 39.34 seconds. In the MTB division, Kim Jinpil of Team Wiawis took first place in the Men's 4 division (under 45) with a time of 23 minutes 19.12 seconds. In total, 110 participants received awards.
