"As the only national university hospital in Sejong City, we are committed not only to protecting the health of local residents, but also to actively contributing to reducing the suicide rate in the community and promoting a culture of respect for life."

Sejong Chungnam National University Hospital announced this on June 30, after being designated in the healthcare sector of the 2025 Dodam-dong Life Respect Safe Village Project by the Sejong City Mental Health Welfare Center and receiving the official plaque.

The Life Respect Safe Village Project is a mental health safety net initiative in which institutions and residents work together within the community to prevent suicide and promote a culture of respect for life. The project is implemented across five sectors: healthcare, education, welfare, distribution and sales, and public services.

The hospital will focus its activities in the healthcare sector on three of the five key strategies: suicide prevention awareness campaigns, life respect education, and tailored services for high-risk groups. The five key strategies are: early identification, counseling, and referral of high-risk groups; suicide prevention awareness campaigns; life respect education; provision of tailored services for high-risk groups; and restricting access to means of suicide.

Kim Sangbeom, Chief Medical Officer, said, "We will make every effort to establish a sustainable suicide prevention safety net within the community and foster a community culture in which residents protect life themselves, so that this leads to a reduction in the suicide rate and improvement in mental health."
