Hwaseong City Holds 26th Memorial Ceremony for Victims of the Ssiland Fire Disaster

Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province held the "26th Memorial Ceremony for the Victims of the Ssiland Fire Disaster" on the 30th at the memorial park near Gungpyeong Tourist Site in Seosin-myeon.

The memorial ceremony, held at the newly established memorial park, was organized to remember the victims and to reaffirm the commitment to preventing such a tragedy from ever happening again. More than 100 people attended the event, including bereaved families, Hwaseong Mayor Jung Myunggeun, and Hwaseong City Council Chairman Bae Jungsu.

Mayor Jung stated, "I hope this memorial park will become a symbolic place where everyone can reflect on the value of safety and pledge that such pain will never be repeated," and added, "I will do my best to ensure that children can grow up in a safe environment."

The newly established memorial park was created at the site of the accident, reflecting the opinions of the bereaved families, and covers an area of 576 square meters. The park features a memorial sculpture themed "Safe Haven" and an inscription of the memorial poem "Child, Where Are You" written by poet Park Kyungran for the bereaved families. The city plans to use the park as an educational site where young people visiting the Hwaseong Seohaemaru Youth Hostel can directly observe and learn about the importance of safety.
