Prosecutors Indict Gu Youngbae, Ryu Gwangjin, and Ryu Hwahun Without Detention on Charges of Unpaid Wages and Retirement Benefits Yonhap News

Gu Youngbae, chairman of Qoo10 Group, who is currently on trial over the Tmon-Wemakeprice (Timape) case, has been additionally indicted on charges of unpaid wages.

On June 30, the Third Public Investigation Division of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (headed by Chief Prosecutor Kim Taehun) announced that Gu, along with Ryu Gwangjin, CEO of Tmon, and Ryu Hwahun, CEO of Wemakeprice, had been indicted without detention on charges of violating the Labor Standards Act and the Act on the Guarantee of Employees' Retirement Benefits.

Qoo10 Group was also indicted under the dual liability provision. The dual liability provision is a regulation that allows for the punishment of both the individual who violates the law and the corporation connected to that individual.

They are accused of failing to pay approximately 5.621 billion won in wages to 613 Timape employees and about 20.7413 billion won in retirement benefits to 733 employees. Previously, in December of last year, the prosecution requested an arrest warrant for Gu, but the court dismissed the request.

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office stated, "We will continue to work closely with the Ministry of Employment and Labor to strictly punish malicious wage offenders and do our utmost to help restore damages for workers whose livelihoods are threatened by unpaid wages."

The trial related to the Timape case began with its first hearing on April 8 and is currently ongoing in the first instance.
