Additional Discount Rate Increase to Revitalize the Local Economy
Cheongsong County in North Gyeongsang Province will increase the discount rate for the "Cheongsong Love Currency," which has been driving local economic revitalization, from the current 15% to 20% starting July 1. The currency will be available for purchase at this discounted rate on a regular basis.
Last June, the county temporarily raised the discount rate to 15% for one month to support the swift recovery of wildfire victims and small business owners. This time, with additional national funding secured, the county plans to offer a 20% discount benefit on a total of 30 billion KRW worth of Cheongsong Love Currency starting in July. However, the individual purchase limit will be adjusted from the previous 600,000 KRW to 500,000 KRW.
According to a county official, Cheongsong Love Currency is expected to receive a positive response from residents because it provides discount benefits (the special 20% discount sale will continue until the 30 billion KRW allocation is exhausted). The official also expects that the currency will help small business owners in wildfire-affected areas recover their economic activities, and will inject vitality into the stagnant local economy, leading to positive effects overall.
County Governor Yoon Kyunghee said, "This 20% discount measure is intended to help revive the weakened economy in wildfire-affected areas and to promote local consumption, so we ask for your active participation."
Cheongsong County plans to continuously strengthen monitoring against illegal distribution in line with the increased 20% discount rate, in order to ensure the sound and transparent circulation of Cheongsong Love Currency.
