According to Uijeongbu City on June 30, the city provided a total of 143 employment and welfare services to job seekers with disabilities during the first half of this year, resulting in five individuals successfully securing employment at private companies.

The 2025 employment program for people with disabilities will target 135 participants, an 8% increase from the previous year.

The types of participation are as follows: 42 full-time positions, 18 part-time positions, and 75 welfare jobs. New roles such as kitchen assistant and library assistant have been introduced.

The number of job placement institutions has been expanded from 34 to 38, with three new departments from the city government and the Korea Employment Agency for Persons with Disabilities newly added.

Uijeongbu City plans to broaden the range of job choices and expand practical employment opportunities for people with disabilities by diversifying placement institutions and job roles.

On February 11, Uijeongbu City signed a business agreement with the Gyeonggi Northern Branch of the Korea Employment Agency for Persons with Disabilities and helped connect 41 out of 85 unsuccessful applicants to employment opportunities.

Among them, two individuals were hired as contract workers at Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), and three others found jobs at local hospitals and facilities for people with disabilities, leading to tangible employment outcomes.

Additionally, the city posts job openings for people with disabilities on its official website every month and continues to promote the Developmental Disabilities Training Center, enabling individuals with developmental disabilities who require job training to receive the necessary support.

Based on this collaboration, the city continues to provide tailored job placement services that match each individual's abilities and aptitudes.

Systematic post-employment management is in place to support job retention for people with disabilities. The city visits all 38 placement institutions every six months to assess working conditions and participant satisfaction.

In particular, during the second half of the year, 60 participants in general employment positions will receive customized welfare counseling and employment information services to help them adapt to their jobs and encourage long-term employment.

This concurrent support is contributing to the creation of a sustainable, field-oriented employment environment.

In August, the city will conduct a follow-up survey of job seekers on the waiting list for jobs for people with disabilities, and from September, it plans to carry out on-site monitoring of placement institutions and further employment matching.

Starting in November, the city will begin full-scale preparations for recruiting and placing participants in the 2026 employment program to ensure seamless employment connections without interruption.

Going forward, the city will continue to strengthen its integrated support system that combines welfare and employment, striving to build an employment ecosystem that supports the independence of people with disabilities.

Mayor Kim Donggeun stated, "Employment for people with disabilities is more than just a job; it is the starting point for ensuring independence and dignity," adding, "We will continue to implement practical, customized employment policies so that people with disabilities can live without discrimination in their daily lives."
