The Jeollanamdo Animal Hygiene Testing Laboratory will conduct an intensive egg safety inspection targeting laying hen farms for three months until August, in order to provide safe food during the summer season.
This inspection is being carried out due to two main factors: consumer anxiety has increased as egg prices continue to rise, and the possibility of pesticide use is higher in the hot and humid summer months when poultry mites are more active.
Eggs produced at 116 laying hen farms will be collected and tested for residues and harmful bacteria.
The inspection will target a total of 81 types of residues, including 34 types of pesticides and various antibiotics, as well as Salmonella bacteria, which can cause food poisoning.
Local government officials will check the egg shell number at each farm and collect egg samples, which will then be sent to the Animal Hygiene Testing Laboratory for precise analysis using advanced equipment.
If the inspection results show that residue levels exceed the permissible standard, the eggs will be immediately withdrawn from the market. The relevant farm will be designated as a "residue violation farm" for six months, during which egg shipment and sales will be restricted. In cases where Salmonella is detected, follow-up inspections will be conducted every two weeks, along with assessments and guidance to improve farm management practices.
These measures aim to completely block the distribution of eggs containing harmful substances and to strengthen the farms' autonomous safety management systems. The Jeollanamdo Animal Hygiene Testing Laboratory plans to continue its efforts to ensure that consumers can safely consume eggs.

Through intensive inspections during the summer, we will further enhance egg safety, and we will continue to build a trusted food safety system through systematic management and response."
