Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) announced on June 30 that it has been selected as the preliminary project executor for Sanbon District 11 in Gunpo. Following its previous assignments in Sanbon District 9-2 in Gunpo and Mokryeon Village in Bundang, LH will now be responsible for the redevelopment of three districts in the first-generation new towns.
If the project proceeds according to the redevelopment plans presented at the resident briefing sessions, the number of households in Mokryeon Village, Bundang, will increase from 1,107 to 2,226. In Sanbon District 9-2, the number will rise from 1,862 to 2,940, and in Sanbon District 11, from 2,758 to 3,800. LH expects that a total of 3,239 new households will be supplied, contributing to the stabilization of the housing market in the Seoul metropolitan area.
Pilot districts are those among the first-generation new towns that are advancing with reconstruction ahead of others. In November last year, 15 such districts were designated through open calls by five local governments. To support these redevelopment projects, LH has established Future City Support Centers in five first-generation new towns, including Goyang. LH has also created a dedicated organization, the New Town Redevelopment Division.
Next month, LH plans to sign business agreements with resident representatives from each district. The company will begin procedures to establish special redevelopment plans, aiming to propose and designate special redevelopment zones within the year. The direct involvement of a public institution in managing the project is seen as advantageous, as it enables stable and transparent project execution.
LH President Lee Hanjoon stated, "Through the redevelopment of aging planned cities, we aim not only to improve living conditions and the quality of life for residents in original downtown areas but also to expand housing supply in the metropolitan area. As a public developer, we will leverage our professional expertise to ensure the successful redevelopment of the first-generation new towns."
