On June 30, Gwangmyeong City announced that starting next month, it will expand the local currency incentive payment limit in order to boost local consumption.

This expansion of the payment limit is due to the increased national funding for local currency, following the government's supplementary budget allocation in the second half of the year. The city explained that it will further add its own financial resources to increase benefits for both citizens and small business owners.

The new limit will take effect from 12:00 a.m. on July 1. As a result, if a consumer recharges 700,000 won, the available amount will increase to 770,000 won. Since 2020, the city has been providing a 10% incentive for local currency throughout the year.

The Gwangmyeong Sarang Currency can be used at over 8,000 affiliated stores in the city, including restaurants, cafes, private academies, and hospitals with annual sales of 1.2 billion won or less. Affiliated store information and recharging services are available through the Gyeonggi Local Currency app.

Park Seungwon, Mayor of Gwangmyeong, said, "We will continue to provide generous support at the city level so that the Gwangmyeong Sarang Currency can serve as a catalyst for revitalizing the local economy."
