The Naju City Children's and Social Welfare Meal Management Support Center, which is operated under commission by the Dongshin University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, announced on the 29th that it had successfully completed the second phase of its long-term project, "Colorful Garden Playground."
Five children's meal service centers in Naju City and a total of 73 children are participating in the Garden Playground program. In the first phase, which took place in March, participants planted and managed garden crops (potatoes). The second phase, held in June, included an art activity called "Drawing My Own Garden" along with harvesting the crops that had grown. The third phase, scheduled for August, will feature a low-sugar, low-sodium cooking class using garden vegetables (Vegetable Pop-in and Push Pop Cake).
As children grow crops themselves in nonwoven fabric gardens and participate in art and cooking classes using the produce, the program is expected to help prevent picky eating and foster healthy eating habits naturally.
The Naju City Children's and Social Welfare Meal Management Support Center held a "Drawing My Own Garden" activity for children participating in the garden program and plans to award certificates and prizes to outstanding participants in the future.
No Heekyung, head of the center, said, "We expect that this program, conducted in cooperation with the Jeonnam Food Education Network, will help improve children's eating habits and support their growth and development. We will continue to offer a variety of hands-on activities so that children can become naturally familiar with vegetables and develop healthy eating habits."
