He explained that, under this philosophy of managing the national economy, he aims to create new growth engines through focused investment in new industries such as AI, establish a structure in which all citizens participate in both the opportunities and benefits of growth, and thereby create a virtuous cycle of national happiness and development.
Koo stated, "The Korean economy is facing a grave situation due to external shocks such as global tariff wars and competition for technological supremacy, as well as structural issues such as low growth and polarization," and added, "I feel a heavy sense of responsibility being nominated as the first Deputy Prime Minister for Economy of the new administration in such a serious time."
He announced that, if appointed as Deputy Prime Minister, his top priority would be the recovery of the people's livelihood economy. Koo said, "I will do my utmost to stabilize the prices of daily necessities, which have become a significant burden on people's lives due to accumulated high inflation," and added, "I will revitalize the local economy so that both the capital region and the provinces can grow together."
He also stated, "We will make thorough preparations for public safety, including proactive measures against disasters such as heatwaves, heavy rains, and typhoons during the summer."
Regarding the ongoing tariff negotiations with the United States, he said, "We will conduct the negotiations meticulously together with the relevant ministries, and provide detailed support to industries affected by tariffs."
He further promised, "We will thoroughly prepare for the impact of geopolitical uncertainties, such as the Iran-Israel war, on our economy, including energy, logistics, and exports."
