Gangdong Forest Library Launches AI Robot 'Cubelet' Program with LG Discovery Lab

Operated Monthly Starting This Month...
First Public Library to Specialize in Science for Elementary and Middle School Students

On June 28, the Gangdong Cultural Foundation in Seoul announced that it has signed a business agreement with LG Discovery Lab, an institution specializing in artificial intelligence (AI) education. As a result, Gangdong Forest Library has become the first public library in Korea to regularly offer an AI robot 'Cubelet' experience program.

This agreement marks the first case in which AI-based robot experience education will be continuously provided at a local public library, and is expected to serve as a symbolic starting point for Gangdong Forest Library as a science-specialized library.

Cubelet is an educational robot that allows participants to combine cube-shaped block modules to operate various robots. It serves as AI robot experience content where students can directly assemble and understand key concepts of artificial intelligence, such as sensors, actuators, and logical structures, without the need for complex coding.

This educational program will be held a total of 14 times, on the fourth Thursday of every month from this month through December, targeting upper elementary and middle school students. In addition, an advanced learning opportunity will be provided through a year-end Cubelet competition.

LG Discovery Lab is an AI technology education institution for youth, established by the LG Yonam Cultural Foundation. It leads digital future education through various methods, including the development of educational content, exhibitions, lectures, and hands-on experiences. Through this agreement, LG Discovery Lab will directly provide Cubelet-related educational guides and instructor training to the library, and will cooperate in promoting local science culture.

Kim Youngho, CEO of the Gangdong Cultural Foundation, stated, "AI and robotics education are no longer a distant future, but scientific literacy that children must encounter in their daily lives." He added, "We will continue to work closely with LG Discovery Lab so that public libraries can become children's first science laboratories and the starting point for their exploration of technology."

Further details can be found on the integrated homepage of Gangdong District Libraries and the official social networking service (SNS) accounts. Program registration is available through the website starting at 10 a.m., two weeks prior to each event date.
