The Amsa Library, operated by Gangdong District in Seoul, will be temporarily closed from next month until December this year due to the Green Remodeling Project for public buildings.
The Amsa Library was selected for the "2025 Public Building Green Remodeling Support Project" organized by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. The library will carry out an eco-friendly remodeling project aimed at improving energy efficiency, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and achieving carbon neutrality. A total of 1.5 billion KRW in national and local government funds will be invested in the remodeling.
Through this project, the Amsa Library will undergo internal and external insulation work, replacement of high-efficiency windows, installation of high-performance heating and cooling systems, and installation of instant water heaters in restrooms. These energy performance improvement works will transform the library into a comfortable and eco-friendly space for reading and cultural activities.
Kim Youngho, CEO of the Gangdong Cultural Foundation, stated, "This green remodeling project is part of Gangdong Cultural Foundation's ESG management practices," and added, "We will take the lead in establishing a sustainable cultural foundation for the local community by creating a high-efficiency energy library environment."
Details regarding the green remodeling construction and the temporary closure can be found on the Gangdong District Library website.
