The Geomdan Extension Line of Incheon Subway Line 1 officially opened on June 28, with its first train departing at 5:30 a.m.

This line, which will dramatically improve transportation conditions in Geomdan New Town, connects three stations?Ara Station, Singeomdanjungang Station, and Geomdanhosu Park Station?over a 6.8 km section starting from Gyeyang Station. As a result, the entire Incheon Line 1 now consists of 33 stations and covers a total operating distance of 37.1 km.


On this day, Incheon Transit Corporation held commemorative ceremonies at Ara Station, Singeomdanjungang Station, and Geomdanhosu Park Station, where the first trains departed, and presented souvenirs and bouquets to the first nine passengers.


With the opening of the Geomdan Extension Line, transportation convenience for local residents is expected to improve significantly. The travel time from Geomdanhosu Park Station to Seoul Station has been reduced from 70 minutes to 38 minutes. The journey from Geomdan to Gyeyang Station, which previously took 40 minutes by bus or 20 minutes by car, can now be completed in just 8 minutes.


This extension project broke ground in December 2019 and was completed in five years and six months, with a total project cost of 790 billion won. During weekday peak hours, trains will run at intervals of 4.5 to 5 minutes, at 9-minute intervals during off-peak hours, and at 8.5-minute intervals on weekends and holidays.


Choi Jeonggyu, President of Incheon Transit Corporation, stated, "With this opening, transportation convenience in the Geomdan area has improved dramatically," and added, "We will continue to do our best to ensure that citizens can use the subway in a safer and more comfortable environment."
