Two national policy research institutes specializing in legislative affairs will jointly hold an academic conference to discuss the legislative policy direction of the Lee Jaemyung administration.

This conference will focus on artificial intelligence (AI) and foreigner policy, with in-depth discussions expected on the Basic Act on Artificial Intelligence and policies related to the employment of international students.

The Korea Institute of Criminology and Justice Policy (President: Jung Woongseok) announced on the 27th that it will co-host an academic conference with the Korea Legislation Research Institute (President: Han Youngsoo) under the theme "Legislative Policy Direction and Legal Affairs Tasks of the New Administration" at the Anais Hall of the SC Convention Center, Korea Science and Technology Center, Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, starting at 2 p.m. on the 30th.

This conference has been organized to explore response strategies that can enhance the effectiveness of national legislative and legal affairs policies amid rapidly changing social environments, such as the proliferation of AI technology and shifts in foreigner policy. At the same time, it is expected to serve as a practical forum for discussion to strengthen cooperation and policy response capabilities between the two national research institutes.

At the event, Jung Woongseok, President of the Korea Institute of Criminology and Justice Policy, will deliver the opening remarks, followed by a welcoming address from Han Youngsoo, President of the Korea Legislation Research Institute, and a congratulatory speech by Shin Dongcheon, Chairman of the National Research Council for Economics, Humanities and Social Sciences.

In the first session, under the theme "Directions for Legislative Improvement in the Age of AI," Jeong Wonjun, Head of the AI Legislation Team at the Korea Legislation Research Institute, will present on "Key Contents and Future Directions of the Basic Act on Artificial Intelligence," and Sung Yuri, Associate Research Fellow at the Korea Institute of Criminology and Justice Policy, will present on "The Present and Future of Behavior-Based AI Technology." The panel discussion will feature Yang Cheonsu, Professor at Yeungnam University Law School, and Kim Juncheol, Research Fellow at the Seoul Institute.

In the second session, under the theme "Future-Oriented Immigration Policy Responding to Social Change," Choi Hyowon, Associate Research Fellow at the Korea Institute of Criminology and Justice Policy, will present on "Policy Improvement Directions for Employment of International Students," and Park Kwangdong, Senior Research Fellow at the Korea Legislation Research Institute, will present on "Directions for Immigration Legislation from the Perspective of Social Integration." The panel discussion will be led by Han Jieun, Ph.D. at the Konkuk University Migration and Social Integration Research Institute, and Lee Jinhong, Professor at the Konkuk University School of Convergence.
