Bucheon City and KAIST Sign Traffic Data Utilization Agreement: "Realizing an AI Mobility Model City"

On June 27, Bucheon City announced that it had signed a "Bucheon City Traffic Data Utilization Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)" with KAIST and Bucheon Urban Corporation.

The agreement outlines cooperation to foster Bucheon as an artificial intelligence (AI) mobility model city by utilizing real-time traffic information collected throughout the city.

Additionally, the parties agreed to open traffic data collected from 286 intersections and 1,453 CCTVs across the city to domestic and international public, academic, and research institutions, and to cooperate in using this data for empirical studies aimed at solving urban traffic issues.

Institutions utilizing this traffic data, whether domestic or international, must reflect Bucheon City's data usage and citation requirements in their research outcomes. Furthermore, the results must be shared with Bucheon City after prior consultation.

He added, "I hope to build a world-class AI mobility model city together with Bucheon City through ongoing cooperation."

Bucheon Mayor Cho Yongik emphasized, "By opening Bucheon’s traffic data to domestic and international institutions, we will widely promote the city's traffic policies," and added, "We will further enhance our competitiveness as an AI mobility model city in line with the new government's AI development policies."

Meanwhile, Bucheon City plans to work with the two institutions to expand into domestic and international markets in the fields of AI-based urban transportation systems and future mobility, and to accelerate the strengthening of urban competitiveness and the enhancement of international standing through global cooperation, including participation in international academic conferences.
