"Teachers Prepare First for the Era of Major-Free Admissions"... Silla University Holds Special Admissions Lecture for High School Educators in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam

"Career paths are not a matter of choice, but of exploration. We, as educators, must study first, before our students do."

On June 21, more than 200 high school teachers from Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam gathered in the main auditorium of the Aviation Hall at Silla University. They attended Silla University's special admissions lecture, which was organized to help educators respond to the changing college admissions landscape, particularly the growing trend toward "major-free admissions."

Silla University (President Heo Namsik) announced on June 27 that it held a special admissions lecture for high school teachers in the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam regions who are responsible for college guidance, aiming to provide them with practical support.

The admissions lecture began with a welcome address by Vice President Lee Beomjin. He expressed his gratitude, saying, "Teachers who are working hard on the front lines of high schools must clearly understand the admissions trends in order to broaden the possibilities for their students."

Jo Manki, a teacher at Dasan High School in Namyangju, delivered a passionate 90-minute lecture on "Strategies for Applying to Major-Free (Self-Directed Major Selection) University Programs." He emphasized that, rather than focusing on "what you want to become," it is increasingly important to design college plans based on "how you want to live." He highlighted the shift in admissions toward competency-based, rather than major-based, approaches.

One teacher who attended the lecture said, "When explaining admissions trends that are not tied to specific majors, I feel I can communicate more convincingly to students. This is genuinely helpful for college guidance."

Kang Hyunkyung, Director of Admissions at Silla University and organizer of the event, stated, "We will continue to provide opportunities to listen to the voices of high school educators and to think together. By joining hands with college guidance teachers, we aim to shape the direction of future education together."

Silla University is proactively responding to the changing educational environment by expanding major-free admissions and developing regionally tailored admissions strategies. The university is also strengthening programs to foster close collaboration between high schools and universities.
