"We don't post every moment on Instagram
Divorce rumors are pure imagination"
Michelle Obama, wife of former U.S. President Barack Obama, 61, has denied rumors of divorce.
On June 26 (local time), Michelle appeared on the U.S. public radio NPR podcast and addressed the divorce rumors, saying, "Rumors that our marriage is over started because people don't often see me going out on dates with my husband," and added, "We don't post every moment of our daily lives on Instagram."
Michelle said, "We are 60 years old. Folks, we are 60," and "You are not going to know every single moment of our day," firmly denying the divorce rumors.
Speculation about discord between Michelle and former President Obama intensified earlier this year after Michelle did not attend events such as the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter and the inauguration of President Donald Trump. Michelle explained that her absence from these events was due to scheduling reasons. She also dismissed the divorce rumors as "pure imagination."
During the broadcast, Michelle said, "One of the important decisions I made this year was not to attend funerals, inaugurations, or other events I was scheduled to attend," and explained, "It was part of a process where, separate from what I have to do or what the world expects of me, I told myself, 'Let me define myself by what I want to do.'" She added, "No matter what backlash there was, I had to stand my ground," and said, "I have no regrets; this is my life."
Michelle, who married Barack Obama in 1992, has two daughters with her husband and is currently active through podcasts and other projects.
