Welfare Community Based on Solidarity and Cooperation Begins Full Operation
The Seongbuk Welfare Foundation in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, will officially launch on July 1.
The Seongbuk Welfare Foundation, a corporate foundation, was established with the goal of creating a welfare community in which the local community shares the values of consideration, inclusion, and solidarity for the socially disadvantaged in Seongbuk-gu, and where all residents can live happily with dignity and rights. In particular, the foundation aims to closely support residents who are struggling in the shadows of growth, by adopting the philosophy of “taking one step closer to the residents” and establishing a comprehensive and robust support system throughout the district.
The foundation’s establishment began with the formulation of a basic plan in August 2023. In August of last year, a feasibility study was completed by a specialized institution. After a public hearing with residents, the foundation received approval for incorporation from the Seoul Metropolitan Government this month.
Going forward, the foundation is expected to contribute to improving the quality of life for residents by building a dense welfare safety net to protect residents from new social risks, expanding a local welfare cooperation system to support those in welfare blind spots, and utilizing welfare resources more efficiently.
Yoon Jaesung, the foundation’s inaugural chairman, stated, “The Seongbuk Welfare Foundation, launched with the long-held hopes and dedication of the residents, will serve as a catalyst for advancing toward a sustainable welfare society. We will be a strong support so that no neighbor is left behind and everyone can live a happy life, by providing customized welfare services for the socially disadvantaged and promoting sharing and participation.”
Lee Seungro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, said, “The launch of the Seongbuk Welfare Foundation is more than just the establishment of an institution?it marks a new beginning for a more systematic approach to local welfare, including helping neighbors, volunteering, and supporting single-person households. We will work together with various institutions and organizations that have been practicing welfare in the field to create a Seongbuk-style welfare model.”
The launch ceremony will be held on July 1 at the Dreambit Theater on the 4th floor of Seongbuk Media Culture Maru, with around 300 participants including residents involved in social welfare corporations and facilities, professional associations, and welfare-related community organizations.
