Expansion of Support to Families with Two or More Children
Differentiated Scholarship Amounts for Middle, High School, and University Students
The Jangbogo Scholarship Foundation has awarded a total of 360 million won in scholarships to families with multiple children in Wando County, South Jeolla Province. The initiative aims to ease the financial burden on parents with two or more children and to help address the issue of population decline in the local community.
According to the Jangbogo Scholarship Foundation on June 26, this round of scholarships was provided to families with two or more children who are middle school, high school, or university students. Elementary school students received 100,000 won each, middle school students 200,000 won, high school students 300,000 won, and university students 500,000 won.
This year, the eligibility criteria were relaxed from "three or more children" to "two or more children," allowing more families to benefit. Families residing in Wando with children enrolled in middle school or higher were eligible to apply. The beneficiaries were families living in Wando County with at least two children attending middle school, high school, or university.
The scholarship amounts were 100,000 won for elementary school students, 200,000 won for middle school students, 300,000 won for high school students, and 500,000 won for university students, and were awarded to families with two or more children, specifically to those with children attending higher levels of education. This year, by lowering the eligibility requirement from three children to two or more, the foundation enabled more families to receive support.
In particular, the foundation emphasized that families with multiple children are seen as central to sustaining the local community, and that this scholarship program represents not only financial support but also a long-term investment in the community.
Chairman Shin Woochul stated, "I understand very well how difficult it is to raise two or three children in today's world," adding, "I hope this scholarship offers some comfort to parents and gives children a sense of encouragement from their community."
Since its establishment in 2007, the Jangbogo Scholarship Foundation has carried out various scholarship programs to nurture local talent. Notably, starting this year, the foundation is also working to address educational disparities by providing vouchers for online lectures from the Gangnam area of Seoul to middle and high school students.
A representative of the Jangbogo Scholarship Foundation stated, "We will continue to implement effective scholarship programs that respond to the changing times."
