Held in Tianjin, China...
Concludes on June 26
According to a report by the BBC on June 25 (local time), global turmoil and trade wars have become the dominant keywords at the Summer World Economic Forum (WEF, also known as the Davos Forum) held in Tianjin, a northern port city in China.
Borge Brende, President of the Davos Forum, stated ahead of the forum’s opening, "We are currently facing the most turbulent geopolitical and geoeconomic environment I have seen in decades," and added, "If we cannot revive growth, we will be forced to witness a decade of low growth." This is interpreted as a reference to the instability in the Middle East caused by the recent armed conflict between Iran and Israel, as well as the possibility of US involvement.
Jeffrey Frieden, a professor at Columbia University in the United States, pointed out, "We are fundamentally living in an environment of great uncertainty."
In addition to geopolitical risks, the tariff war triggered by the administration of Donald Trump has also been identified as a factor increasing global uncertainty. Chinese Premier Li Qiang, in a special address at the forum, noted that global trade tensions are intensifying and said, "The world economy is undergoing tremendous changes."
Meanwhile, China views the Summer Davos Forum as an opportunity to promote itself to other countries. In his special address, Premier Li emphasized, "We have the confidence and capability to maintain relatively rapid growth in the Chinese economy," and added, "We will do our utmost to solve the problems facing the world economy."
The Summer Davos Forum, held under the theme of ‘Entrepreneurship in the New Era,’ will conclude on June 26.
