Eugene Park's Aunt Cleared of Embezzlement Allegations... Prosecutors Decide Not to Indict Citing "No Right of Prosecution"

"Estate stably maintained at 3.1 million dollars"
"Transparent asset management proven"

Aunt A, who had managed the U.S. assets of electric violinist Eugene Park (50), has been cleared of embezzlement charges.

According to legal sources on June 25, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office decided not to indict Aunt A on May 29, citing "no right of prosecution" in the case filed by Eugene Park's limited guardians, who had accused her of embezzlement.

The individuals who filed the complaint against Aunt A are known to be Eugene Park's limited guardians. They claimed that Aunt A managed approximately 5.6 billion won worth of assets, including real estate and bank deposits under Eugene Park's name, without legitimate authority. They also raised suspicions that she had arbitrarily used about 2.8 billion won of these assets.

The prosecution did not accept these claims. Park Junsun, an attorney at Woosong Law Firm and legal representative for Aunt A, stated, "After Eugene Park's mother passed away in 2015, the inheritance left behind amounted to about $3.05 million (approximately 4.2 billion won)," adding, "The assets are still being stably maintained at around $3.1 million."

He further explained that Aunt A has served as the trustee of the 'Eugene Park Trust' in the United States and has managed the assets in accordance with U.S. court orders and proper delegation procedures. He added, "During the investigation, we submitted clear evidence such as balance certificates from U.S. financial institutions and account statements, proving that the assets were managed transparently."
