Ulsan Autonomous Police Committee: "Women’s Safety Patrol Protects Ulsan’s Streets at Night"

Notable Achievements in Community Policing: On-Site Response and Joint Patrols
Support for Intoxicated Individuals Returning Home and Facility Incident Reporting Activities

The Ulsan Autonomous Police Committee and the Ulsan City Welfare and Family Promotion Social Service Center reported that the "Women’s Safety Patrol," which officially launched its activities following an inauguration ceremony on March 7, has achieved meaningful results.

The Women’s Safety Patrol is a participatory community policing initiative in which citizens are directly involved. Sixteen teams, composed of 50 retirees, patrol 49 towns and neighborhoods across Ulsan during nighttime hours (7 p.m. to 11 p.m.).

This project underwent a systematic preparation process, including patrol member recruitment, training, and an inauguration ceremony. The Ulsan City Welfare and Family Promotion Social Service Center is responsible for the overall operation of the project.

During the three months from March to May, the patrol conducted a total of 63 patrol activities, including 48 on-site responses, 3 instances of assisting individuals in returning home, and 3 joint patrols, carrying out field-oriented crime prevention activities.

Key examples include assisting intoxicated individuals and elderly people with dementia who had collapsed on the road, reporting abandoned and damaged oil containers, and taking emergency action and reporting dislodged storm drain (manhole) covers. These efforts demonstrate proactive field responses to ensure citizen safety.

Kim Jaehong, Chairperson of the Ulsan Autonomous Police Committee, stated, "The Women’s Safety Patrol is a meaningful initiative in which local residents take the lead in making Ulsan a safer city," and added, "We will actively support the patrol so that its activities can lead to tangible results."

The Autonomous Police Committee and the Welfare and Family Promotion Social Service Center provided new patrol members with training on reporting procedures, safety rules, understanding the autonomous police system, and CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation). On March 20, the committee also conducted joint patrols with the Taehwa District Police Station in Taehwa-dong, Jung-gu, and with the Beomseo Police Substation in Beomseo-eup, Ulju-gun, among other diverse activities.

Additionally, to enhance the effectiveness of field operations and improve patrol members’ working conditions, they conducted surveys on the need for rest areas, field inspections, and consultations with related organizations. As a result, a total of 22 rest areas, including those at schools, sports centers, and autonomous crime prevention offices, have been secured and are currently in operation on site.
