Samsung Electronics announced on the 26th that it will apply the Samsung Wallet Digital Key to key models of Mercedes-Benz.

The applicable vehicle models include 17 types, such as Maybach, AMG, E-Class W214, and C-Class W206, which are scheduled to be released in South Korea after July. Users can register the Samsung Wallet Digital Key through the "Mercedes me" app provided by Mercedes-Benz.

With the Digital Key, users can unlock their cars without carrying a physical key. In addition, they can start the engine remotely by pressing the engine button from outside the vehicle, without getting inside. When lending the car to family, friends, or acquaintances, users can share the Digital Key via the "Key Sharing" feature through a message. During key sharing, it is also possible to set the usage period, adjust access permissions, and revoke the key.

The Digital Key incorporates encrypted security technology based on Samsung Knox and ultra-wideband (UWB). UWB is a short-range wireless communication protocol operating at high frequencies, enabling mobile devices to recognize their surroundings with precise spatial awareness and directionality.

The Samsung Wallet Digital Key operates through biometric and PIN-based user authentication. If the smartphone that has been issued the Digital Key is lost or stolen, users can remotely lock or reset the smartphone using the Samsung Find app.

The supported smartphone models are: Galaxy S21 Ultra and Plus, Galaxy S22 Ultra and Plus, Galaxy S23 Ultra and Plus, Galaxy S24 Ultra and Plus, Galaxy S25 Ultra, Plus, and Edge, Galaxy Z Fold3, Galaxy Z Fold4, Galaxy Z Fold5, Galaxy Z Fold6, and Galaxy Z Fold SE, totaling 16 models. Standard models of the Galaxy S series and the Galaxy Z Flip series are not supported, as they do not have UWB capability.

Chae Woncheol, Vice President and Head of Digital Wallet Team at Samsung Electronics MX Division, said, "We are very pleased to offer Mercedes-Benz customers the experience of using the Digital Key in Samsung Wallet," adding, "Through this collaboration, we are able to expand the Galaxy ecosystem and provide customers with a safe and convenient experience."

Stephan Brossey, Director of User Interface (UI) Components at Mercedes-Benz, stated, "Providing convenience and luxury to our customers is our top priority, and we are committed to delivering the best vehicle experience." He added, "The Samsung Wallet Digital Key will greatly help Mercedes-Benz continue to provide customers with convenient accessibility and vehicle connectivity."

Samsung Wallet is a mobile digital wallet service that, in addition to the Digital Key, supports features such as Samsung Pay, tickets, memberships, coupons, boarding passes, and electronic certificates. Since 2021, Samsung Electronics has been collaborating with automotive brands including Hyundai Motor Group, BMW, and Audi to support the Digital Key.
