Special Task Force for Ticket Inspection to Be Deployed Starting June 27
SR, the operator of the Suseo High-Speed Railway (SRT), announced on June 25 that it will conduct a month-long intensive crackdown on fare evasion starting June 27.
SR plans to deploy the Special Task Force for ticket inspection, focusing on trains with high passenger demand. The crackdown will target short-distance fare evasion, fraudulent use of tickets, and cases where passengers board sold-out trains without a ticket and then demand to purchase one after boarding.
According to SR, a total of 240,000 cases of SRT fare evasion were detected last year, an increase of 21% compared to the previous year.
If fare evasion is detected, an additional fare of up to 30 times the standard fare will be imposed in accordance with Article 10 of the Railroad Business Act. Those who refuse to pay or repeatedly commit fare evasion will be handed over to the Special Judicial Police of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and subject to legal penalties.
SR CEO Lee Jongguk stated, "We will do our utmost to protect customers who use the SRT legitimately and to establish a fair ticketing culture."
