Expanded to Second-Year Middle School Students...
Intensive English Immersion: 11 Days for Middle School, 6 Days for Elementary School
Gijang County in Busan will officially launch an English camp during the summer vacation to strengthen the global competencies of local youth.
This year, the program has expanded its eligibility to include second-year middle school students, reflecting the growing interest in English education.
On June 25, Gijang County (Governor Jung Jongbok) announced that it will hold the "2025 Summer Youth English Camp" in cooperation with Busan University of Foreign Studies, starting in July.
The camp is a residential English immersion program led by native-speaking instructors. Rather than relying on rote learning, it aims to motivate students and boost their confidence through practical, real-life English activities.
Gijang County will select a total of approximately 500 participants for this English camp (432 elementary students and 70 middle school students). Previously, the program was open to students from fourth grade in elementary school to first-year middle school students. This year, eligibility has been expanded to include second-year middle school students. The middle school camp will run for 11 days and 10 nights (from July 23 to August 2) and will feature an intensive curriculum that includes grammar and reading comprehension classes in addition to everyday English activities.
The elementary program will select 144 students per session over three sessions, with each session running for 6 days and 5 nights. The schedules are as follows: ▲Session 1: July 28 to August 2 ▲Session 2: August 2 to 7 ▲Session 3: August 11 to 16.
The participation fee is 100,000 won for middle school students and 50,000 won for elementary students. Students from households receiving basic livelihood support can participate free of charge. Applications for the middle school program will be accepted from June 24 to 26, and for the elementary program on July 8 and 9, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, via the English camp website.
Governor Jung Jongbok said, "I hope this camp will help students build confidence in English and serve as an opportunity for them to grow as global citizens. We will continue to provide active support to enhance the creativity and international competencies of local youth."
The camp will be organized by Busan University of Foreign Studies. For inquiries regarding participation, please contact the English camp operations office.
