Sooyoung Kim of Gwangju Seo-gu Council: "Yang Hakseon Memorial Hall Should Open on Weekends"

Neglected Status of Balsan Village’s Representative Spaces Pointed Out

On June 25, Sooyoung Kim, a member of the Gwangju Seo-gu Council, delivered a five-minute speech during the 331st regular session, addressing two main topics: the request to open the Yang Hakseon Memorial Hall and the Gu Youngwoong Photo Studio (hereafter referred to as the facilities) on weekends and public holidays and to improve nearby facilities, as well as a proposal for cleaning storm drains.

Kim pointed out, "These facilities are symbols of community recovery and are representative spaces of Balsan Village. However, they remain closed on weekends and public holidays, and are in a state of neglect, overgrown with cobwebs and weeds."

Additionally, Kim noted that the community is exposed to unpredictable natural disasters due to the worsening climate crisis, and proposed establishing a proactive response system in preparation for the rainy season.

Kim also expressed gratitude to the relevant departments and staff who worked hard to have the entire Seo-gu area designated as a local commercial district in a short period of time, and urged continued efforts to ensure that policies and projects for revitalizing small businesses and the local economy are thoroughly planned and implemented.
