The event was attended by representatives from the U.S. government’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) team, as well as more than 50 AmCham member companies, including Amazon Web Services, Meta, Microsoft (MS), Tesla, and Uber. Officials from the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which is overseeing the 'APEC Business Event' to be held in Gyeongju this October, were also present.

During the session, Director Kim introduced the Korean government’s key policy directions and vision as the chair of the upcoming APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting. She also shared updates on the progress of major events, such as the Third Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM3) and Economic Leaders’ Week. In addition, she emphasized that the Korean government has been continuously engaging with regional businesses through various opportunities to achieve tangible outcomes under the theme and priorities of “Creating a Sustainable Tomorrow Together: Connection, Innovation, Prosperity.”

Director Kim particularly drew attention to APEC’s unique feature that allows for the active participation of business leaders through mechanisms such as the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC). She introduced a range of public-private partnership projects being promoted in areas including digital and AI, bio and healthcare, and support for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Director Kim also requested active participation from AmCham member companies in the “Public-Private Dialogue on AI Cooperation and Responding to Demographic Changes,” which is scheduled to take place during the Third APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM3) in August. The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry introduced economic events for business leaders during APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, such as the CEO Summit and the Leaders-ABAC Dialogue, and encouraged strong interest and participation from the business community.

James Kim, Chairman and CEO of AmCham, stated, “This year’s APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting is especially significant as it takes place at a critical moment when Korea can demonstrate global leadership amid rapidly changing international and technological environments.” He emphasized, “It will be a golden opportunity for the public and private sectors to unite around key agendas such as digital innovation, supply chain resilience, and regulatory improvement.”

He added, “As a member of the APEC CEO Summit Organizing Committee Executive Board, we will work closely with the Korean government and the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry. We will actively support Korea in delivering tangible results as the chair and in contributing to the Korea-U.S. economic partnership and the shared prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region.”
