Korea Marks 75th Anniversary of Korean War with Words of Gratitude
"We Must Remember and Honor Those Who Dedicated Themselves to the Nation"

Han Donghoon, former leader of the People Power Party, expressed his gratitude to Korean War veterans on the 75th anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War. He also emphasized the importance of remembering their dedication to the nation and honoring them appropriately.

On the 25th, Han Donghoon wrote on his Facebook page, "Today, 75 years ago, the Korean War began with North Korea's invasion of the South. I remember the countless heroes who sacrificed and devoted themselves to protect the freedom and democracy of this land."

He continued, "It is because of them that the Republic of Korea exists today, and it is because of them that our people were able to rise again from the ruins of war. What we must do now is to ensure that the horrors of war are never repeated under any circumstances by strengthening our security and alliances, and to remember and properly honor those who sacrificed and devoted themselves for the nation and the people."

Han Donghoon added, "I bow my head in special gratitude to the approximately 30,000 surviving Korean War veterans. The freedom and prosperity we enjoy today would never have been possible without the courage and dedication of each and every veteran, and I will never forget their courage and dedication."

Meanwhile, on the same day, other political leaders also expressed their gratitude to the veterans. President Lee Jaemyung wrote on Facebook in the morning, "Today's Republic of Korea did not come about by chance. It was made possible by the sacrifice and dedication of the soldiers who defended the battlefield, the veterans, the bereaved families, and all the people who endured the scars of war." He continued, "I regret that we have not been able to provide sufficient compensation and honor to those who made extraordinary sacrifices to defend the Republic of Korea. I promise to seek various ways to ensure that more support is provided in the future."
