Busan Institute, SK Innovation E&S, and City Gas to Hold Forum on Exploring a 'Carbon Neutral City'

Busan Institute (President Shin Hyunseok), together with SK Innovation E&S and Busan City Gas, will hold the '2025 Busan-SK Happiness Forum' at BEXCO Exhibition Hall 1 on June 26, 2025.

This forum has been organized to share urban-scale energy transition strategies and practical measures for achieving the 2050 carbon neutrality goal, as well as to discuss technological and policy alternatives such as decentralized power systems. The forum also aims to serve as a 'social deliberation platform' to establish a foundation for cooperation with civil society.

The event will begin with opening remarks from Shin Hyunseok, President of Busan Institute, followed by congratulatory addresses from Kim Bongcheol, Director of Digital Economy at Busan Metropolitan City, and Choi Jungseok, CEO of Busan City Gas. Next, Cho Chunho, the first Director of the National Institute of Meteorological Sciences, will deliver a keynote speech on the topic, 'In the Era of Carbon Neutrality: A New Partnership for Regions and Energy Transition.'

The main presentations will include: ▲ Nam Hoseok, Senior Research Fellow at Busan Institute, on 'Busan-Style Decentralized Energy Expansion Strategies and Implementation Tasks'; ▲ Lee Dongjin, CEO of Busan Offshore Wind Power, on 'Establishment of Saha-gu Wind Farm and Decentralized Energy Practice Cases'; ▲ Kim Jihoon, Head of Energynet, on 'Energy Efficiency Innovation and Green Transition in Industrial Complexes'; and ▲ Lee Imcheol, Vice President of SK Innovation E&S, on 'How Hydrogen Will Transform Busan.'

The comprehensive discussion session will be chaired by Shin Hyunseok, with participation from Kim Donghyun, Deputy Mayor of Saha-gu, Kim Taekju, Team Leader at City Gas, Woo Hanseong, Researcher at the Industrial Location Research Institute, and Jeong Sangdo, Editorial Writer at International Newspaper. The panel will engage in in-depth discussions on policy, technology, citizen participation, and public-private cooperation.

Shin Hyunseok stated, "This forum will serve not only to concretize Busan's carbon neutrality implementation roadmap, but also to provide an opportunity to seek sustainable transition strategies in partnership with civil society."

At the entrance to the venue, there will also be a promotional booth for SK Innovation E&S's citizen-participatory ESG platform 'I'm in Busan.' This year, with 'energy' as the theme, 10 small and medium-sized venture companies from the Busan region are participating and jointly carrying out various activities to address social issues.
