The National Policy Planning Committee has once again postponed the prosecution's work report, drawing attention to the reasons behind the decision.
The committee abruptly canceled the second prosecution work report, which was scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on June 25, at 9:36 p.m. the previous day.
An official from the committee explained, "Since the prosecution's work report is an important matter, we have decided to allow more time and receive the report again." The second work report is now expected to be rescheduled for early next month.
The second prosecution work report on this day was essentially the committee's second opportunity given to the prosecution. Previously, on June 20, after receiving the prosecution's first work report, the committee halted the session after just 30 minutes, stating, "There is a lack of understanding regarding the president's pledges, and both the content and format are insufficient," and instructed the prosecution to resubmit the report.
The deadline set by the committee's Political and Administrative Subcommittee for the prosecution to resubmit materials was June 24. However, it remains unclear whether the prosecution submitted the materials in the format and substance the committee requested.
Some view the committee's cancellation of the second report as a warning to the prosecution for its lack of cooperation. The prosecution has consistently opposed the Lee Jaemyung administration's pledge to separate investigation and indictment powers, citing concerns that it would weaken the country's ability to respond to crime and that it does not align with global standards.
The committee maintains that the prosecution must present a roadmap for the separation of investigative and indictment powers. Whether the prosecution will adjust the content of its work report to align with the governing philosophy of the Lee Jaemyung administration remains a point of interest going forward.
