Cheongyang County in South Chungcheong Province is actively implementing comprehensive tourism policies to attract new residents and revitalize the local economy, designating this year as the "Year of Cheongyang! Creating a Tourism City" and next year as the "2025 Visit Chungnam Year."

According to the county on June 25, the county has recently achieved notable results by strengthening efforts across the board, focusing on the Tourism City Development Project Team to expand tourism infrastructure, develop new content, and establish marketing strategies.

On June 24, the county held a "First Half Performance Review and Second Half Plan Briefing" in the county office situation room, attended by 17 working-level officials from relevant departments, to share the results of their initiatives.

During the briefing, the county closely reviewed the implementation status of a total of 48 projects under three key strategies for tourism revitalization: ▲Improving tourism readiness (12 projects), ▲Building tourism infrastructure (20 projects), and ▲Expanding the resident population (16 projects).

Currently, the Chilgap Tower and Skywalk, which have reached an 80% completion rate, are undergoing final construction with a target opening in September. Environmental improvement projects have been completed at three major tourist sites, including the Cheonjangho public restroom.

The county's signature festival, the "Cheongyang Chili Pepper and Gugija Festival," is being revamped to diversify food-related content and introduce customized programs for different generations.

In particular, the county is strengthening a variety of experiential elements targeting family tourists and the MZ generation, aiming to promote longer stays.

Through stay-type tourism programs such as the Cheongyang Tour Pass, Stamp Tour, and One-Month Stay Program, the county attracted 2,770 tourists in the first half of the year alone.

In addition, policies to attract new residents?such as revitalizing the Geumgang Riverside Park Golf Course, sports marketing, and expanding dormitories for foreign seasonal workers?have resulted in approximately 40,000 visitors to Cheongyang over the past four months.

At the briefing, Deputy County Governor Yoon Yeogwon reviewed the progress of current initiatives, analyzed the causes of underperforming projects, and instructed officials to devise practical improvement measures.

He further emphasized, "To usher in an era of 5 million tourists, please focus on safety inspections of tourism facilities, the rapid completion of new facilities, and both online and offline promotional marketing." He also urged, "Continue to implement tourism revitalization strategies through festival reorganization, measures to attract foreign visitors, and private-sector cooperation."
