Project Implementation Approved, Construction of 1,931 Units to Begin by Year-End
Significant Improvements in Transportation and Cultural Infrastructure
On June 26, Seongbuk District in Seoul announced that it had given final approval to the amended project implementation plan for the Jangwi 10 District redevelopment project, which includes the exclusion of religious facilities from the project area.
With this approval, the Jangwi 10 District redevelopment project is expected to gain momentum, which will also accelerate the overall Jangwi New Town project. The Jangwi 10 District is planned to cover an area of approximately 91,362 square meters and will consist of a total of 1,931 residential units. Of these, 341 public housing units will be mixed with for-sale housing. As a result of this plan revision, the boundaries of the redevelopment zone have been adjusted, and new plans have been established for public infrastructure such as roads, parks, and a community center.
The Jangwi 10 District was designated as a redevelopment zone in 2008 and received approval for its management and disposal plan in 2017. However, the project was delayed for an extended period due to compensation issues with Sarang Jeil Church, which is located within the project area.
The church demanded compensation exceeding 50 billion KRW. Although the association reached a compensation agreement with the church, relocation was not carried out. As a result, the redevelopment zone was adjusted to exclude the church, and the project was relaunched for the remaining area.
As the Jangwi 10 District project gains momentum, significant improvements are also expected in the transportation environment within Jangwi New Town. The expansion of Dolgoji-ro, a key road, will become possible. This is expected to not only accelerate the pace of public redevelopment projects in Jangwi 8 and 9 Districts, but also alleviate traffic congestion in Jangwi 2, 4, and 7 Districts, as well as in nearby areas where redevelopment has been lifted.
Lee Seungro, Mayor of Seongbuk District, stated, "We will actively support the successful implementation of the redevelopment project through transparent administration and prompt procedures."
