On June 24, Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT) signed a mutual cooperation agreement with Kakao at the Seoul aT Center's Agro-Fisheries Online Wholesale Market Integrated Situation Room to promote innovation in the distribution of agricultural and fisheries products.
The two companies agreed to actively cooperate in enhancing farmers' income by revitalizing transactions in the online wholesale market for agricultural and fisheries products, and in discovering new varieties and expanding sales channels to respond to climate change. They also agreed to establish a collaborative system to improve the efficiency of agricultural and fisheries product distribution.
This marks a case where the world's first operational online wholesale market for agricultural and fisheries products is combined with Kakao's retail platform capabilities, which generate annual sales of 9 trillion won. Both companies expect this partnership to become a turning point in the innovation of agricultural product distribution structures.
The Agro-Fisheries Online Wholesale Market, launched in November 2023, is a next-generation distribution platform established to digitally transform agricultural product distribution and reduce distribution stages. Currently, transactions exceed 3 billion won per day on average.
With this agreement, selected premium products from the online wholesale market will be distributed in earnest through Kakao's retail platform, 'Talk Deal.' Starting in July, seasonal fruits such as apples, melons, and peaches will be sold with various discount benefits.
Hong Moonpyo, President of aT, stated, "Going forward, by combining the strengths of both companies, we will promote diverse collaborations such as the introduction of new varieties and promotional activities, creating a mutually beneficial ecosystem that increases the income of farmers and fishers while also benefiting consumers."
