"Summer Safety Secured" ... Changwon Special City Holds Briefing on Natural Disaster Preparedness Changwon Special City Holds Summer Natural Disaster Preparedness Progress Meeting.

At the meeting held on the 23rd, reports were given on the results of comprehensive inspections of 1,483 disaster-prone facilities, including reservoirs, slopes, and underpasses, as the rainy season officially began. Measures to prevent a recurrence of damage caused by last year's heavy rainfall were also discussed.

The city has conducted repeated safety inspections and restoration work on forest roads, rivers, and agricultural facilities that are vulnerable to heavy rainfall. As a result, 91% of the facilities damaged last year have been restored, and the remaining projects are in their final stages. Of the 12 projects not yet completed, all except for four mid- to long-term projects will be finished promptly.

In particular, to prevent flooding caused by stormwater backflow, the city is carrying out regular maintenance of more than 120,000 storm drains, utilizing local community members. In addition, inspections of 12 major public construction sites, including the self-sufficient complex administrative town, were completed on the 18th. Any deficiencies, such as lack of flood control supplies, were addressed immediately on site.

Furthermore, as a heat wave is expected after the rainy season, the city is also thoroughly preparing measures to protect vulnerable groups from extreme heat. A total of 347 shade canopies and 953 cooling shelters have been inspected in advance and are operating normally. In addition, 19 more shade canopies will be installed this month in locations such as Myeongseo Intersection. The city is also working to strengthen ties with relevant agencies and private organizations to ensure smooth cooperation in case of emergencies.

Jang Geumyong, Acting Mayor of Changwon Special City, stated, "With abnormal weather events such as heavy rain and heat waves becoming the norm, thorough inspections and swift restoration are the top priorities for citizen safety," adding, "We will do our utmost to prevent summer disasters through on-site disaster response."
