Ahn Cheolsoo: "Song Miryung Stood By During Martial Law, Not Ashamed to Stay? She Should Have Stepped Down Herself"

"President Lee's Pragmatic and Unifying Cabinet? Just Wordplay"

Ahn Cheolsoo, a member of the People Power Party, criticized the decision to retain Song Miryung as Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, stating, "Minister Song is someone whose basic attitude as a public official is in question, even as a cabinet minister."

On June 24, Ahn posted on his Facebook page under the title "Minister Song Miryung, Aren't You Ashamed?" He said, "It is claimed that this is a pragmatic and nationally unifying appointment by President Lee Jaemyung, who says he will judge based on performance and ability regardless of political affiliation, but this is mere wordplay."

Regarding Minister Song, Ahn stated, "Above all, on the night of December 3, 2024, she was the minister who stood by and did nothing as former President Yoon Sukyeol declared martial law. If that martial law had been declared, it could have caused fatal harm to the lives and property of the people, and even to the president. She should have locked the doors and physically restrained him if necessary to prevent it."

He added, "Yet she did nothing at all. Just that inaction alone should have made her feel ashamed and step down from public office."

Ahn also pointed out, "Minister Song called the Grain Management Act and the so-called 'Three Farmers' Laws' promoted by the Democratic Party 'Agricultural Ruin Laws' and even recommended the president exercise his veto. However, when she was nominated as Minister of Agriculture under the Lee Jaemyung administration, she responded, 'I will proceed in a direction that aligns with the new government's philosophy.' Isn't it likely that the saying, 'If you want a long ministerial career, act like Song Miryung,' will spread throughout the public sector?"

Furthermore, Ahn criticized, "Looking at this appointment, I now understand the true nature of the pragmatism President Lee speaks of. It is opportunism disguised as pragmatism and self-serving interests masked as national interest."
